The mission of Women At Risk is to provide emotional and educational services to women living with HIV/AIDS and their families, and to provide education outreach to the communities in which we live. Keeping us focused on the needs of HIV+women, our board of directors is comprised of a majority of positive women, and reflects the culturally diverse communities we serve.

Women At Risk Provides:

  • Multiple Specialized Support Groups
  • One-On-One Peer Counseling
  • Prevention Education/Community Outreach/Speakers Bureau
  • Hospital Visitation
  • Childcare Services/Transportation

The obstacles faced by Ann Copeland and Linda Luschei, co-f ounders of Women At Risk, are still here. Women still believe that they are not at risk and when they become infected, they live in isolation and fear until they meet other women who have learned how to live with HIV/AIDS.. Our support groups are a safe place for positive women to share their experiences and receive support. W.A.R. is unique in that there are not any forms to fill out so anonymity is assured and our support groups are conveniently located throughout the communities that the women live. Women at Risk and our groups also serve as a venue to learn about treatments, clinical trials and dealing with the side effects of the many different medication regimens.

In the last few years the number of women living with HIV/AIDS are steadily increasing. We intensified our efforts to reach out to the health care community to let them become aware of our services and how the support groups and related services have been dramatically affecting the lives of our HIV+ women clients in a positive way. Based on this outreach we have found that there are many more women calling for our services. In the past year we have been working hard at capacity buildings through fundraising so we can meet the needs of our new clients and their families. We could no longer afford to be a two woman office but needed to increase our staff to a total of four to meet the needs with the same quality, respect and compassion as we always have done. We are a grassroots organization that is solely supported by individual donations, fundraisers, Corporate contributions and Foundations like yours. It is important that we keep the doors open and continue to provide services to women who are living with HIV and to women and our youth at risk for infection.
